A Windy Mountain Proposal | Utah Engagement Photography

The wind was blowing in a spring storm and making the trees and bushes around me creak and crack.  I pulled my camouflage jacket tighter around me to keep the dead leaves and bark that were caught in the wind from going down my neck.  Four hours earlier Caleb and I had hiked up this mountain looking for the perfect spot for Caleb to propose to his girlfriend, Cali (Caleb carrying my three-year-old while hiking and trying not to pant from the effort).  And now I was here, sitting in the bushes, waiting for them to come walking by.  Caleb and I had been talking and texting about the perfect place for him to propose where I could be hidden to capture the moment.  He decided on Emigration Canyon, where he tells me that it was when he first knew that he loved her. (Awwww!!)

We were racing the rain, and I was running late from traffic on the freeway, so I had called to let him know to stall, and Cali was with him… so that was awkward for him to try to talk to me.  I stressed him out even more than he already was with trying to plan it out without Cali knowing what was coming.  But she knew.  She knew from the day before that he had picked up the ring, and she recognized my new car that was parked at the only parking available below the trail. But does it really matter if you know they are proposing beforehand or not?  I say not.

I was close enough that I could hear “Will you marry me?” and the quiet “Yeah” that followed.  It makes me smile to think about still.  They’re getting married in August and wedding planning is going ahead full force.  Engagement pictures will be coming soon, followed by a formal session… and sooner than we know, their big day will be here!  And I can’t wait!
