Downtown Salt Lake City Engagement Photos

I am so excited to share these photos with you today!  Christy is one of my very favorite friends from high school and we have lots of fun memories together.  She’s getting married next year in Arlington, VA and she asked ME to photograph her wedding!  Next September can’t come soon enough for me!

Christy and JJ met just over a year ago when Christy first moved to the DC area.  They were introduced through Christy’s new roommate and that, as they say, was that.  They’ve been together since and will become husband and wife on September 20, 2014.  They came to Salt Lake City last week and wanted to have engagement pictures taken downtown.  I happen to love downtown Salt Lake City for engagement photos – there’s a great spot around every corner.

Cupcakes are a good place to start for engagement photos, right?

The wedding cake, will actually be cupcakes – so we wanted to tie that into their engagement photos.  The cupcakes were provided by Once Upon A Cake Co.  And let me just tell you, they were SOOOOOOOOO good!  Red velvet and caramel cupcakes!

Let’s not forget the sprinkles!

After a quick change, we drove a few minutes north to Ensign Peak to get a few photos overlooking the city.

The entire time we were racing against a thunderstorm that was moving in and taking the sunlight with it.  But I kind of love the dark clouds with the city.  That’s August in the Salt Lake valley.

Because engagement photos can be stressful for some (not for me! I could do it every day for the rest of my life!), JJ needed a reward.

And I absolutely LOVE when I can capture small un-posed moments like this.  I think she loves him.

As I snapped my last photo, the rain started in.  We had timed it perfectly!  By the time we made it to my car, it was coming down in earnest and as I dropped them off at their car a block away it was a downpour!  The drive home was pretty crazy to watch the lightning flashing over the valley.

Christy & JJ, I can’t WAIT for next year to come!  Your day is going to be as amazing as you two are and I am so happy that I get to be a part of it.
