UPDATE NOVEMBER 2020: This shoot has been featured on Utah Valley Bride. You can see the feature right HERE.
With the way everything has gone in 2020, I have dedicated myself and all of my “extra” time to learning more and perfecting my craft. This year I’ve invested in educational courses and workshops. This Blue Sky Ranch Wedding Editorial Workshop is one of them. A masterclass basically, lead by my favorite wedding planner in all of the world (and I can say that because she and I have worked on more than a few projects together) Rachael Ellen Events. Rachael really has the most magical touch and I love getting to be part of so many incredible things that she plans/designs.
The theme for the shoot was English Rose and the concept was showcasing something that could have happened in English countryside or in the mountains of Utah. (And obviously it happened in the mountains of Utah – although I fully plan to shoot in the English countryside in the near future.) The idea behind the design was old world, romantic, classic English and I guess you’ll have to be the judge on if that was captured or not.
But let me just warn you, there are some incredibly BEAUTIFUL details in this shoot and things were so well thought out and planned. I loved seeing it all come together, but also to learn about the staging and styling of the details – how to best work with your vendors that are part of such a big endeavor with you.
2020 has me planning more of these editorials as part of my yearly marketing strategy going forward. The chance to push myself with new techniques and work with light differently than what I would normally have time for on a wedding day is something that I have truly loved with styled editorials.
The light at Blue Sky Ranch was so much fun to work with. We got a true golden hour where everything was warm and glowy. And then the sun went behind the mountains and everything cooled and stilled. Summer in the Utah mountains is absolute magic.
I’m so glad that Rachael included an outfit change for both the bride and the groom from the ceremony to the reception. One is very old world and classic while the reception is very modern feeling while still remaining timeless. And an updo to showcase those statement earrings? Yes please.
