Emigration Canyon Utah – Location for Photos

I’ve had the privilege of photographing a proposal, multiple families and engagement sessions here from my first years as a photographer. And when it came down to it, I didn’t have many good photos that showed the views and how beautiful this spot is as a location for pictures.

This particular spot in Emigration Canyon has some of my very favorite views of Utah mountains – but I haven’t been up here for 5 years for a shoot! I didn’t have any current examples of my work to share with potential brides, so when Keauna reached out and asked about their annual photo session, she said she was up for any location I wanted. The thing that always holds me off from this spot is that it is quite a steep hike to get to the top. It isn’t long – just a few hundred feet, but you get out of breath very fast and the trail is gravel that likes to slip out from underneath you when you are coming back down.

This is what scouting a location looks like when I’m alone. Pictures of all of the views. North, east, south and west. To watch the light and see how easy spot are to access. Where to stand for the best views and the best light… it’s a process and I always feel so much more confident with my couples, when I know exactly where I’m going to take them for their session.
