If your blog post's featured images are fairly low resolution, you may want to delete the top image canvas. Your blog will still look gorgeous, but the top banner section looks best when you upload an image that's 2500px on the long side. You can also use our fave TinyJpeg to make them small so your blog posts still load quickly!

The Perfect Park City Engagement Location | Golden Hour Magic at Empire Pass

If you’re searching for the perfect Park City engagement location, it’s hard to beat Empire Pass. Tucked high above the town, this spot offers sweeping mountain views, golden light that spills across the ridgelines, and just enough quiet to feel like you have the whole place to yourselves. It’s a not so hidden gem that feels like a world away—yet it’s just minutes from downtown Park City.

For Nicole + Clark’s engagement session, we timed our shoot to start just before golden hour, and the light did not disappoint. Warm, glowy, and soft—it was everything we hoped for. And to make the session even sweeter, they brought their golden retriever, Whistler, along for the adventure. Golden hour and a golden retriever? Say no more.

You don’t have to go far to find the overlooks that gave us that breathtaking view down into Park City. Whistler stole the show more than once (you’ll see below), but the way Nicole and Clark lit up around each other was truly the heart of the shoot.

Why Empire Pass is One of the Best Park City Engagement Locations

As a photographer, I’m always looking for locations that balance beautiful light with a stunning backdrop—and Empire Pass delivers both. The terrain is varied enough to give you multiple looks in one session: open meadows, random pine trees, and wide-open views of the mountains and the valley below. Whether you’re envisioning something romantic and windswept or something fun and full of movement (and pups!), it works beautifully.

Plus, it’s easy to access while still feeling like a private mountaintop escape. It’s this mix of accessibility and seclusion that makes Empire Pass one of my top recommendations when couples ask me where to take engagement photos in Park City.

If you’re planning your own session and wondering what to wear, how to include your dog, or what time of day gives you that dreamy golden light—I’d love to help you plan it. You can reach out HERE and we’ll find the perfect Park City engagement location for you.

Bonus Tips to Know About Shooting at Empire Pass

  • Parking is Limited
There are only about 8 spots at the overlook, and it’s a popular trailhead for mountain bikers—especially in the evenings and on weekends. I always recommend arriving early or carpooling if possible. (Arriving a early gives you a chance to relax and take in the view before we start shooting.)
  • Timing is Everything
Golden hour at Empire Pass is unreal. The light spills over the mountains and adds the most beautiful glow to everything. But because the light changes so fast, we’ll plan your session time very carefully to catch that magic window—typically starting about an hour and a half before sunset.
  • Bring Layers + Bug Spray
Even in summer, it can get chilly once the sun dips behind the peaks. A light jacket or wrap is always a good idea, especially if you’re planning an outfit change. And the mosquitoes come out as the weather warms up.
  • Cell Service Can Be Spotty
Once you’re up there, service can be hit or miss. I always recommend saving the meeting point ahead of time and staying in touch before you drive up.
  • Dogs are Welcome!
If you’re thinking about bringing your pup, Empire Pass is a great location for it (there are a lot of mountain locations that you cannot bring your furry friend along with, so this is one of my top dog-friendly spots to share with my couples). Just be sure to keep them leashed and bring plenty of water and treats. (Whistler 100% approved.)
