If your blog post's featured images are fairly low resolution, you may want to delete the top image canvas. Your blog will still look gorgeous, but the top banner section looks best when you upload an image that's 2500px on the long side. Garden Park Ward Bridal Photos | A Romantic First Look in Salt Lake City

There are some locations that photograph beautifully… and then there are places like Garden Park Ward.

Tucked in the heart of Salt Lake City, this historic property feels like stepping into a quiet English garden. With towering oak trees, ivy-covered brick walls, a flowing stream, and charming architectural details, it’s no surprise that Garden Park Ward bridal photos have become a favorite for Utah couples.

For this session, we planned a private First Look among the trees and stone pathways — and it could not have been more romantic.

Why Brides Love Garden Park Ward for Bridal Photos

Garden Park Ward isn’t a reception center — it’s an active meetinghouse for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, with deep historic ties to the Mormon pioneers. Because of that, the grounds feel peaceful, sacred, and are beautifully maintained.

The property offers:

  • A stream and small bridges with Red Butte Creek flowing through
  • Manicured lawns and classic garden pathways
  • A quaint carriage house with rounded brick doorway
  • 100-year-old trees that provide soft, even light
  • Ivy climbing along warm-toned brick walls (my personal favorite backdrop)

What I love most as a photographer is the light. In the spring and summer months especially, the light filters through the trees in the most flattering way. It’s soft, even, and romantic — beautiful at almost any time of day.

For couples wanting elegant, timeless bridal photos with lots of green (without hiking into the mountains), Garden Park Ward is an incredible option.

A First Look Among the Trees

Instead of seeing each other for the first time at the ceremony, this couple chose to share a quiet First Look before their wedding day. The mature trees created a natural canopy overhead, and the privacy of the grounds allowed them to fully soak in the moment.

First Look photos at Garden Park Ward feel especially intimate because of the quiet, garden atmosphere. The sound of the pond and small creek create the most wonderful and calming white noise. There’s space to breathe. Space to slow down. And space to capture genuine emotion without feeling rushed.

If you’re trying to decide between traditional bridal portraits or incorporating a First Look, this location works beautifully for both.

What to Know About Photography at Garden Park Ward

Because this is a functioning church property, there are important guidelines to be aware of when planning your bridal photos:

  • Photography is not permitted on Sundays.
  • Photography is typically available:
    • Tuesdays & Wednesdays from 10 a.m. – 7 p.m.
    • Saturdays from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m.
    • (But times are fluid depending on the time of year… I’ve never been turned away from being on these grounds over the last 10 years.)
  • Access may be restricted if church-related activities are scheduled.
  • No vehicles are permitted on the grounds beyond designated parking.
  • Changing rooms are not available — you must arrive fully dressed.
  • Modesty in dress and conduct is required.
  • Stay on marked pathways to protect landscaping.

It’s always wise to plan ahead and remain flexible, as access can occasionally change.
