Why This Couple Chose a Micro Wedding in Park City

When Ashley + Matt reached out to me about their Park City wedding (OK fine, it was only Ashley that reached out), they knew they wanted something intimate, intentional, and unforgettable. Instead of a large traditional event, they opted for a micro wedding in Park City—surrounded by just their closest family and friends, with the stunning Utah scenery and mountains as their backdrop in the private community of Promontory.

As a Park City micro wedding photographer, I get to witness some of the most meaningful, unfiltered love stories. And this one was no exception.

Why They Chose a Micro Wedding

Ashley and Matt might have initially considered a larger celebration but quickly realized that they wanted to “focus on each other and keep the experience intimate, relaxed, and simple. We wanted our day to be stress free and very intentional.” (Ashley’s words to me in one of our first conversations about her vision for her wedding day.)

A micro wedding offered the best of both worlds:

  • A meaningful ceremony with the people they love most
  • Time to be fully present with each other
  • A luxury experience without the overwhelm

They chose Park City for its beauty, slower pace, and the relaxed yet elevated vibe that fits so many couples of this modern generation.

The Location: Promontory Club – Boathouse/Dock + Outfitters Cabin

Their ceremony took place at the Boathouse Dock inside Promontory Club – a true hidden gem with panoramic mountain views but also with a cozy feel. (One of the biggest perks of a micro wedding is venue flexibility—you don’t need a grand lawn of some big hotel to create a magical setting! You can truly tailor your day to be exactly what YOU want.)

Photographer Tip: If you’re considering a micro wedding in Park City, look for locations with great natural light and an option for indoor-outdoor flow (Utah weather is unpredictable at almost every time of year). There are so many places here that are so so beautiful without needing a lot of “extras”.

How It Turned Out

The entire day was what I would call a masterclass in intentionality. With fewer moving parts, we had time to:

  • Capture thoughtful couple portraits without rushing
  • Photograph all the little details they curated
  • Let moments breathe (yes, even a quiet moment by the fire with their dog Coco)

Before the wedding day Ashley told me “we’re looking forward to having lots of time with our families, taking great pictures, and having a dinner where we can hang out and eat and not have to greet 150+ guests. We’re not into partying these days so we’ll probably be ready for bed by 10pm.” And honestly, I felt that! It was easy to let the day unfold naturally (while still having the most amazing planner behind the scenes making sure it all looked as effortless as it felt!).

The couple said afterward that it was the best decision they made during planning—and I truly couldn’t agree more.
