Why You Should Absolutely Do a Bridal Session Before Your Wedding Day

You know what I love that’s becoming a trend in Utah? When a couple chooses to do a First Look before the big day (or a bridal session before the wedding day). And if you’re here because you are on the fence about whether or not to schedule one, let me be the one to convince you. Bridal sessions before the wedding day are absolutely worth it!

Bridal Session Before the Wedding

A bridal session before your wedding day is absolutely the right choice. Bridal portrait with lilacs.

Picture this: you. In your dream dress. In a breathtaking location. With no wedding-day stress, no timeline crunch, and no pressure. That’s exactly what a bridal session gives you—and it is pure magic.

More Time, Less Stress

Your wedding day will be a whirlwind of emotions, excitement, and celebration. While we always make time for beautiful portraits on the day of, a bridal session gives you the luxury of slowing down and truly enjoying the moment. No rushing to get to the reception, no worrying about guests waiting—just you, your dress, and the perfect setting.

A Chance to See Everything Come Together

A bridal session is like a trial run for your wedding day look. You’ll get to see how your dress moves. You’ll see how your hair and makeup photograph and how all of the little details come together. If anything feels off, you’ll have time to make adjustments before the big day. Plus, it is a really great way to “break in” your dress and feel even more comfortable in it when the wedding arrives.

Dreamy Locations and Perfect Light

When we did this particular session, the timing couldn’t have been more perfect! Springtime in Utah, surrounded by cherry blossoms and lilacs *le sigh*. The soft pastels, the delicate petals floating in the air, and the golden evening light made for the most romantic setting. We were able to choose the best time for photos, which is a luxury you don’t always get on the wedding day.

And can we talk about this bride’s dress from The Perfect Dress Bridal for a second? The unique sleeves were such a fun, fashion-forward choice, and this bridal session allowed us to truly highlight those details.

With or Without the Groom—It’s Up to You

Bridal sessions are all about what you want. Some brides choose to include their groom for an intimate, stress-free First Look and couples portraits. Others want to keep it all about them and their bridal look, creating stunning solo portraits. There’s no right or wrong way—really, it’s just about capturing this moment in a way that feels most meaningful to you.

So if you’re debating whether to book a bridal session, let this be your sign—do it. You’ll never regret having more beautiful portraits of this once-in-a-lifetime season.
