Allow me to introduce you to Victoria (Tori) and Paul and their perfect downtown engagement session in Salt Lake City. I was SO excited when Victoria told me she wanted a more urban look for her engagement pictures – it has been a few YEARS since a couple of mine have wanted this look… which actually boggles my mind when I think about it. Why wouldn’t you be interested in a rooftop engagement session with the city skyline behind you?
One of the first things I do when I book a new wedding client is send them a questionnaire asking about they and their fiancé met. How did they propose? What do they love about them as a couple? Victoria did such an amazing job filling out this questionnaire that I am actually going to put in all of her answers below.
How They Met
My brother Zach set us up about a year ago. Zach gave me Paul’s number and said I could contact him if I wanted to. A few weeks went by and I thought “ehh why not?” I just texted him something like “my brother said you are one of the greatest people he knows, so i guess i better reach out”. We talked a little over text and then he just asked me to dinner. Neither of us were expecting anything, but it was actually a really good and easy first date. I still thought nothing would come of it but hey still a fun time. We went out the following week and the week after that…. the rest is history as they say.
The Proposal
Paul asked me if I wanted to go to a movie or a hike. I chose hike (side note he hates hiking, but I love it). We went up to the alpine loop and it ended up being one of the most beautiful hikes I’ve been on. Once we got to the top we were just hanging out and eating our protein bars. A minute later he told me he needed to talk to me, he had a speech that went right over my head, cause I was just thinking about how he couldn’t be proposing. Then he was down on one knee with a ring. I told him yes before he could even ask me. We were both super super excited. Kinda simple but to me still feels super surreal.
What Do You Love About You Two As a Couple?
The thing I love most about the two of us together is that he is everything I needed and nothing I wanted, and I think the same goes for him. That sounds a little harsh, because obviously he has traits that I was looking for, but neither of us would have picked each other in a room full of people. All of his strengths are my weaknesses and vice versa. I feel like we could make a really good team because of this. I wish more people were forced to meet people they might not normally talk to, because he truly is everything I was looking for, in a different box (for lack of a better word).
One of the things that *I* (me, Whitney talking to you again) loved about their downtown engagement session is that Victoria had told me multiple times throughout the planning process and even during their session that they are not comfortable in front of the camera and that they aren’t “photogenic”. And I just have to tell you that I heavily disagree!
Here’s a fun side note: Tori HATES when Paul whispers or even breathes by her ear… so these types of poses were especially fun to create. Haha.
But LOOK! She doesn’t even look phased and they are so dang cute together.
